World Cup throughout the years

The ODI world cup started in the year 1975 when the Carribean tigers under the leadership of Clive Lyod becme champion. The Prominet players were Lyod, Dennies Ammies, Glen Turner, Jeff Thompson, Vivian Richards and others.
The second edition was also won by West Indies and Ricahrds was the hero of the final by scoring a magical 138 not out.
The third world cup was the world cup of surprises . In the begining the debutant Zimbabue beat the mighty Australia followed by the biggest upset of the world when minnows India beat the powerful West Indiaes by restricting them to meagre 140 in reply to India's 183.Madan Lal,Gurner, Amarnath and Kapildev were the main stars of the world cup.
The next edition saw the triumph of 'Aussie' magic headed by the able cricket brain Allan Border. David Boon, Mike Gatting, Chetan Sharma and Mcdermatt were the heros.
The Pakistani cricket legend Imran Khan came back from retirement in 1992 to lift the world cup. THe strategy of the New Zeland captain Martin Crowe to start bowling with spinner Deepak Patel was an innovative move. In this world cup the once suspended South Africa returned to the international era. They did their best but lost in the semi -finals. Inzamam Ul Haq was the hero of the World Cup along with fielding sensation Jonty Rhodes.
The subcontinent underdog Sri Lanka won the next world cup by beating the Shane Warne starrer Australia in the finals. The Matara dasher Jaysurya won the man of the tournament award in the 1996 cup.
In the next tourmnent it was battle of nerves and Steve Waugh's Australia won a crucial tie against South Africa in which Steve scored an epic 120 not out.The 199 world cup hero was Lance Clusner of South Africa. The Australian side won the cup by beating Pakistan.
Four years later the Indian team of maestro Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly,Rahul Dravid , Anil Kumble,reached the final. But unfortuantely they had to loose to the mighty Australinas.
The next editon was too won by Australia when pacer Glenn Mcgrath and wicket keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist played the best cricket of their life to gift the Aussies the match.
This year the world cup is organised in the subcontinent where among others India is a favourite. All of Indians want to see the cup in the hands of master blaster Tendulkar.
